Our sessions take a more focused approach, working on the areas experiencing pain or tension as well as on other areas that are most likely contributing to those symptoms. Our therapists understand that you want relief when you get off the table and every massage session is devoted to doing just that. The therapists of State College Massage Therapy are proficient in a variety of massage modalities.
Neuromuscular Therapy:
By definition, Neuromuscular Therapy is the utilization of static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain. This technique manipulates the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons and connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system. In a healthy individual, nerves transmit impulses (which are responsible for every movement, function and thought) to the body very slowly. Injury, trauma, postural distortion or stress cause nerves to speed up their transmission, inhibiting equilibrium and making the body vulnerable to pain and dysfunction.
Deep Tissue Massage:
Deep tissue massage this used by targeting trigger points or knots in the muscles to release chronic tension. The focus is placed on the deepest layers of the muscle tissue, tendons and fascia.
Sports Massage:
Sports massage is a form of bodywork geared toward
participants in athletics. It is used to help prevent
injuries, to prepare the body for athletic activity and
maintain it in optimal condition, and to help athletes
recover from workouts and injuries.
Swedish Massage:
Relaxing and therapeutic massage incorporating different strokes and kneading techniques on the soft tissues of the body. The strokes move blood and lymph fluid in the direction of the heart. Swedish massage increases local circulation, improves muscle and skin tone and decreases muscle tension.
